Maimun Palace is one of the iconic city of Medan, North Sumatra, is located on Talbot village, district of Medan Maimun.

Designed by Italian architect and built by the Sultan of Deli, Ma'mun Al Rashid Perkasa Alam in 1888, Maimun Palace has an area of 2772 m2 and 30 rooms.

Maimun Palace into a tourist destination not only because of old age, but also the unique interior design, combines elements of Malay cultural heritage, with Islamic style, Spain, India and Italy, but unfortunately it appears less taken care of now. If we pass this place in the afternoon, we could even see the kids playing soccer in the courtyard of this palace.
Yellow colors dominate this building. Do not connect with the color of a political party. Yellow is the color of a typical Malay. Inside are family photographs, furniture and ancient weapons. This Maimun Palace which is a relic of Deli Sultanate. Maimun Palace is located at Jalan Brig Katamso, Medan. The palace was founded by the Sultan of the Kingdom of Deli, Sultan Ma'mun Al Rashid Perkasa Alam. Pendesainnya was an Italian architect, and completed in 1888. On the ground area of 2772 m2 of building the palace stood facing the east, and became the center of the kingdom of Deli. The palace consists of two floors are divided into three parts, namely the main building, the left wing and right wing. In front of him, about 100 meters, stands the Mosque of Al-Maksum better known by the name of the Grand Mosque of Medan. Entering the guest room (hall) you'll find a throne that dominated the color yellow. Crystal lamps illuminate the throne, a form of the influence of European culture. The effect was also seen in the palace furniture such as chairs, desks, toilets and cupboards to sliding doors to the hall. The room area of 412 m2 was used for the coronation ceremony of Sultan Deli or other customary events. Hall was also used as a sultan to receive our praise from relatives in the days of Islam. Furthermore, you will feel tired through the rooms in it. Number of rooms there are 40: 20 rooms on the upper floor where the throne of Sultan and the 20 rooms at the bottom, not including 4 bathrooms, cellar, kitchen, and prison in the basement. Interesting if observing this palace architectural design. A cross between Islamic tradition and European culture is very visible. Apart from that seen in the hall, the building also showed heavy foundation penaruh Europe. Some building materials are imported from European palaces, such as tile, marble, and terrazzo. The pattern of Dutch architecture with doors and window width and height, as well as Spanish-style doors to be part of the Palace Maimun. Dutch influence was also seen in the marble inscription in front of the marble staircase which was written with Latin letters in Dutch. Islamic influence seen in the form of arches or arcades in some parts of the roof of the palace.
