Museum Affandi


Affandi Museum is located at Jalan Adi Sucipto No. Laksda. 167, Kecamatan Depok, Sleman, DI Province Yogyakarta, Java Island, Indonesia.
Affandi Museum is the location of the west side of Gajah Wong River and is located right alongside a road that connects Laksda Adisucipto between the city of Yogyakarta to Solo in Central Java, since it is the way to Solo, then the Road Rear Adisucipto known as Jalan Solo.
Affandi Museum stands on an area of ​​3500 m² comprising of the museum itself and the building which was once the home Affandi.

Affandi Museum consists of four (4) galleries, namely:
Gallery I
Gallery I breadth of 314.6 m², was completed in 1962 and in 1974 was officially inaugurated by prof. Ida Bagus Mantra which at that time served as Director General of Culture.
Gallery I is used as a hall for performances of works of Affandi's very artistic. The painting is in the gallery, consists of sketches painting, painting with watercolors, pastels, oil paint on canvas, and some reproductive outcomes.
In this gallery will be shown to visitors how Affandi adept at using multiple media canvas and visitors can also discern how to paint with different tools and media.
In this gallery there are also cars Colt Gallant 1976 which has been modified resembles the shape of fish and old-fashioned bicycle owned by Affandi.

Gallery II
In 1987, President Suharto's visit to the Museum Affandi and representing the Government of Indonesia to provide development assistance Gallery II, which covers 351.5 m².
On June 9, 1988, Gallery II, was inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture which was then chaired by prof. Dr. Fuad Hassan.
Gallery II is used as a show containing works of Affandi, Kartika Affandi's paintings work (Affandi's daughter) along with other famous painters. The gallery consists of two floors, to the lower floor contains most of the paintings are abstract, while the upper floor is dominated by paintings are realistic ones.

Gallery III
Gallery III was completed in 1999 by Affandi Foundation. In May 2000, Gallery III was inaugurated by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
Gallery III was established to fulfill the last request Affandi, who want to have enough place to store the results of his work and the work of other painters who became famous for her collection.
The gallery consists of three floors, each floor has a utility as follows:
First floor, used for the temporary exhibitions of local and foreign painters. In addition, the first floor is also used for children's painting studio, dubbed Studio Gajah Wong's name. In this workshop the children learn to express their creativity through painting.
Second floor, used as a place of restoration.
Basement Floor (Lt. Underground), used to store a variety of other paintings.
If you want to see from a height, adjacent to the gallery there is a tower, from the top of the tower visitors can see the highway, Gajah Wong river and the area around the museum.

Gallery IV
Gallery IV is used as a place to exhibit the paintings of Affandi family works, including pieces Didit (Affandi's grandson).

Brief of The Great Painters Affandi
"Painting is a blessing," he said Affandi.
Affandi was born in 1907 in Cirebon, West Java. His father named R. Koesoema, who worked at the sugar factory in Ciledug as an orderly progression.
Affandi was educated past high school (AMS-B) in Jakarta. In 1933, Affandi was married to Maryati, a girl born in Bogor. From his marriage, the Affandi and Maryati blessed with a daughter named Kartika. Kartika later known to inherit his father's talent as a painter.

In 1949, Affandi Grant received from Government of India and lived for two years in India. In India, Affandi painted activities and exhibitions held in major cities until 1951. After that, Affandi held a traveling exhibition to countries in Europe, including London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Rome and Paris.
Affandi had three consecutive times designated by the Government of Indonesia to represent Indonesia in the International Exhibition (Biennale Exhibition), namely in Brazil in 1952, in Venice Italy in 1954, and in Sao Paulo in 1956.
In Venice (Italy), Affandi won the prize.
Affandi frequent painting exhibitions across the world so that the results of his work known to the world. Through his work, Affandi received numerous awards in Asia and Europe, among them:
- Doctor Honoris Causa degree from the National University of Singapore in 1977.
- Dag Hammarskjoeld Peace Prize The Prize of Italy in 1977.
- Bintang Maha Main Services of the Government of Indonesia in 1978.

After so many years Affandi dedicated his whole life to art, on May 23, 1990 painter Affandi the Great dies and is buried in the museum complex, adjacent to the tomb of his wife, Maryati.
After his departure, the museum is managed by the Foundation Affandi to date.
The late Affandi is a legendary painter from Indonesia, whose name and his work is well known to all over the world.

Attractiveness Of Museums
